Filling non factory holes on rifle

You see alot of guns for sale that have extra holes drilled in them to mount scope or other sites. Is it possible fill or weld or do something to cover holes to look orginal? I know you would have to reblue; but i'd rather reblue than look at the holes.

    yes. a smith can screw a bolt into the hole, then mill down the head flush with the receiver. if you want to get reeeeal perfect, he can braze it and then mill it flush, then reblue the whole receiver. if its on a curved surface its all hand file work and very $$$$. most just braze em in and reblue. but, most guns that have been tapped for mounts are done so with common threads. they make whats called filler screws that can be just screwed into the holes and left there until you need them again. brownells sells these screw kits. give it a look! good luck.[;)]

    Unfortunately...You can never fill a Screw Hole and get the bluing to match the Screw to the Barrel Color...and there never seems to be a Screw with the same Metalurgy as the barrel....You'll just have to learn to live with it......In over 50 years in the business I've never seen a barrel that had the holes filled that worked in the manner you desire........

    The hole can be filled, as noted above, and if you want to remove the discoloration, skip having it blued and go with another type of finish- the various coatings available- but then it clearly isn't "factory" if that's what you're after.

    There is a great product that I use for that type of work, it's called lab-metal. It comes in a puddy form like bondo but after it hardens you can sand it down to a metal finish, but like Ray B said you might want to consider another finish like parkerizing or textured finish as on the remingtons.     I have a chemical that will blacken some brass but it sure won't bright blue it
