Colt Diamondback .22 2 1/2" nickel

I am interseted if anyone has a value on a 99.5% mint all factory original Colt Diamondback in very rare .22 cal. 2 1/2" nickel plated. Also wondering how many were made in this configuration.

    Wouldn't be surprised if this went way over $700. With the box and papers, who knows. I've only seen Diamondbacks in blue.

    I rarely discuss value quesitons, but, since the 2.5-inch .22 Diamondback is a rare gun in blue, and worth more than the $700 quoted, a factory-nickel should be worth twice that or more. Six-inch factory nickel .22 DBs bring $1100 and up. I have never heard of a 2.5-inch .22 DB in factory nickel, so I would want to have a factory letter verifying the finish before I put that kind of money in it.

    The .22 Diamondback was indeed made in nickel with 2 1/2" barrel.

    The Blue Book lists a 20% premium for nickel finish on the Diamondbacks and another 30% for the 2 1/2" barrel.

    The value for a 100% Diamondback lists at $650.00 plus the above premiums which would put it at about $1000.00, but I think that due to the rarity of this gun, it could bring in the area of $1200+.

    LL, I would not rely on the Blue Book as proof that the 2.5-inch .22 DB was made in nickel. The BB is full of errors and misleading statements. In the case of the DB listing, the premium for nickel is just a general statement at the bottom of the DB listing for all chamberings and barrel lengths, and does not specifically mention a 2.5-inch .22 DB in nickel. The nickel premium mention is for those guns on which nickel finish was offered instead of blue. It does not mean all guns mentioned were offered in nickel.

    I will have to search my catalog collection again, but I do not believe the 2.5-inch .22 DB was ever cataloged in nickel. It could be a few were made by the factory, but I doubt it. Most likely, the nickel finish is either a factory refinish or an after-market finish. Only a factory letter would be conclusive.
