What happened to Colt?

I guess I'm a bit out of touch but what happened to Colt? I went to their web site and could not even find a revolver??? No more Pythons or Anacondas???

    When I was younger, in the 70's and early 80's I used to hunt, and had some rifles and shotguns. I quit hunting and sold everyting, but now I'm getting bak into target shooting and I've bought my first pistol in many years. All my life I grew up with Colt, Winchester, and Smith & Wesson. Now I hear that Colt is having hard times, as well as Winchester. Not much of a selection in the local gun shops. Anyone have any input as to what happened, and whether the classic old American firearm manufacturers are going to still be around? Also, why are there so many Stainless firearms, and the traditional old blue steel seems to have faded from favor. I still love the look and lustre of blue steel. I hope that someday I can buy a brand new S&W in Blue Steel, what do you guys think? Thanks. jg

    The same thing happened to me. they do have a page for the python. try using a serch engine for the gun you want, and it will come up.

    Corporate decision to sell only guns that are politically correct. They purged their lineup of civilian self-defense guns. They only want to sell guns to military, police, & civilian sporting users.

    I'd love to know the source of this information; last I heard, they were going to resume production of the Python in late '05 or early '06.

    I believe Colt did resume production of the Python in both Stainless and Blued. They did have the Python Combat Elite featured on there revolver web page. I too have noticed it is no longer there. Now just SAA Rovolvers. I do hope this is not a sign of things to come. Colt do have a history of closing the gate after the horse has bolted so to speak.[8)]

    I'll never buy another Colt anything. Not after they jumped ship when the going got tough. (Anti-gun Clinton years...)

    Smith & Wesson makes a better firearm Ruger has a better warranty! JMO[;)]

    Political correctness WILL be the end of this freaking Republic...mark my word's, 'cause 'World government' here we come! Anyway, I agree that Colt's has more or less lost my interest with the shenanigans they've pulled off over the last 20 years or so. They have always made good guns (with a few years of noticeable exception) in my view, just don't like what I've seen from the front office of late. Bugger them anyway...buy a Smith or if you REALLY want to go for the top end revolvers, check out a Korth.

    I posted on another board asking about what 1911 I should buy for my new nephew. I'm going to buy a pair of very nice shooters, make sure they function properly, then put them up for about 20 years. Colt was suggested as the only possibility for something of heirloom quality and high value, but I just can't bring myself to buy one. I've had it hammered into my head for too long that a Colt .45 is the finest and most expensive unfinished pistol you can buy.

    Their web page http://www.colt.com/ states : We can also make available the renowned Colt .45 caliber 1911 pistol and other Colt handguns.

    The web page appears to solely represent Colt Defense LLC, which became a separate company from Colt's Manufacturing Company in 2002.

    Wither the commercial products are shilled is unknown to myself.
    I wonder if my 01091 just became more valuable.

    Uhh ... ''Paging Supreme Dispenser" of profane utterances .. Colt Custom Shop is not Googling, froogling, Zoogigigningzzling. My usual bookmarks take me to blank pages.

    Until they bring up a site for commercial display of their product, in this information age, they are restructuring themselves out of sales to the American People.

    Notice the new site dismisses Colt Manufacturing Co for the "Colt Defense LLC" has the key to the barn now, supplying needs to military and LEO at "hot spots around the globe". Looks like they are in the training business, as well.

    I tried Colt custom shop, as Cfukrr recommended

    but I found sites that cache the info on each page.


    Put "colt custom shop" into google, you pick "caches", and it takes you to pages in the apparent process of disconstruction.[:0][:0][:0][:0][:0][:0][:0]

    The firearm graphics suffere, if they are there at all.
