What's wrong with my Witness 9mm gun?
Was dry firing it (with a snap cap), then hit a snag.
The firing pin appears to be jammed all the way forward protruding through the firing pin hole. And the safety won't engage upwards properly anymore. (It will with the slide locked back, but not with the gun in battery).
I've had to use a wooden dowel to tap the firing pin back to "zero". When I dry fire again, it gets stuck again.
I can't visually see a problem here, but the firing mechanism appears to be intact.
Anyone know what's wrong? Its probably still safe, but I don't even want to try firing the gun with live ammo this way.

I never had a problem dry firing my witness. Can you remove the firing pin from the slide ? Perhaps there is a burr on the firing pin that you could sand off. Other than that, the firing pin spring could be broken. I may still have some spares from Wolff Springs. 0 -

Getting the firing pin out was quite the pain in the behind.
Had to hammer it all the way forward just to get the firing pin stop off, then I had to hammer it back since it got stuck forward, and then extract it with a pair of tape-covered pliers.
Once I got it all taken down, I saw there were two problems:
There was a bit of crud on the inside of the firing pin hole that you couldnt see from the breech side. This probably contributed to the pin getting stuck. Cleaned that and the firing pin channel out with some gun scrubber.
The other problem was that there was a burr worn into the firing pin SAFETY right where it meets the firing pin. So I took that off with some 600 grit sandpaper.
Threw in a drop of CLP, threw everything back together, and now it seems to be working fine.0 -
Glad to hear it. Just let me know if you need me to look for those extra strength firing pin springs. Home remodeling has been taking up lots of my time. 0
