I've decided to order a simmons atec 2.8-10x44 in the silver finish for my Remington 700 LSS in 300 Ultra. anyone had any experience with this scope?

    I wouldn't do it. Save a little more money and get a Leupold or Burris. Honestly don't do it.

    i have 2 simmons aetecs, both are 3.8x12x44mm and have had no problems with either of them... i know where you can get them shipped to your door for about 160 bucks, delivered. i have one on my '06 and one on my .264 win mag and the one on my '06 has to be around8-10 years old... whenever they first came out with them and looks rough from years of hunting and handling abuse, still holds zero and as clear as the day i bought it... for the money you cant beat it. drop me a line if you want to know where to get them

    Are you saying this from experience? When they first came out I got one free for buying five other Simmonds Scopes.That has to be at least 8 to 10 years ago.I've had it on several different guns and like remington nut says they've served me well.I now have it on a Sako 7mm Mag and no problems.A good place to buy them would be Midway or Natchez.[^] [^] [^]

    The Aetec is a great scope for the price as we have sold a ton of these. Simmons has recently changed something on these because the sales people tell us that there is a new line from Simmons coming although I still believe the Aetec will remain in the product line. By the way guys why not buy the scope from your local dealer ? Im sure he'll be close to the same price as the mail order boys and he'll take care of you if you need it mounted or sent back. Why is everyone programmed to buy elsewhere ?

    All I can say is they are great scopes, and thats an understatement.
    I use simmons scopes on all my rifles, from my .22 plinker to my .308 sniper system with no problems.

    ATF I recently posted on the same topic but I own one Simmons scope and I wish I didn't, all my good scopes are Leupold and Burris. The only Simmons I have lasted 200 rounds or less on a .223 Mini-14, from the beginning I suspected that it wasn't holding zero and then the windage adjustment began spinning with every shot. Yeah they have a warranty but you pay the freight and you send them a check for $10 ( why I don't know) and they will repair or replace your scope at their option. Also there customer service was very empty compared to Leupold and Burris. The people at Simmons I talked to on the phone said I should include a note with my concerns instead of talking to them, ( and yes I was very friendly and diplomatic) so I included a note with the scope and $10 and it was ignored completely. I haven't even taken the scope out of the box and I doubt that I will. I should have thrown that junk away instead of throwing good money after bad ( shipping and an additional $10 ).
    Just my opinion, but based on my real experiences.

    Leupold on the other hand has worked flawlessly for me, the only scopes I've sent back to them were both problems ( damage) caused by me and not a shortcoming of the scope. Absolutely no charge and no questions asked and excellent communication as well. In my opinion the product and customer service (comparing Leupold and Simmons) is like comparing grapes to grapefruit.[xx(]

    Was it a Simmonds Aetec? or which model was it? We were discussing just one of their models the Aetec. [:)]

    Just one more thing, I noticed a common theme with Remington nut and ATF, both of you have scopes that are 8-10 years old, maybe Simmons made a better product then?

    For any make of scope you can name, someone on the board thinks it is the best scope ever built, and another thinks it is the worst. This is what makes "eye witness testimony" the least reliable evidence in court. ATF may pamper his scopes, while I abuse mine, so naturally our experience will differ, but you will not be able to tell that here. There are also the so-called "Monday scopes" which can come from any manufacturer, that just are not up to snuff. In fact, the Simmons Atec is a very decent and reliable scope for its price range. You cannot compare a $49 scope with a $300 scope and you cannot compare the $300 scope with a $1200 Schmidt and Bender. Personally, I opt for Burris and also have Leupold, Nikon, a Weaver Grand Slam, a Pentax, and a pile of interesting older scopes including B&L, and Bushnell. I have nothing but Simmons Rimfire Mags, on my .22's, and they have been absolutely outstanding for $30 scopes. With optics, you get what you pay for, and Schmidt and Bender is the only scope handmade in one factory from start to finish in the world. The others are assembled from outsourced parts. Optics today are the best they have ever been, and even $100 scopes have better glass and coatings than you could buy for any price in 1965. Simmons has an uneven reputation, but the Atec is one of the very best things they make. That said, I too would obviously save a little longer and buy a Burris, but if the Atec is what you want, it should serve you well. ATF don't give bad advice.

    No problems with any of mine,,,have aetecs on model 70-270,,,,300 win mag,,and 264 win mag,,2 are 10 yrs old and one is 4,,,absolutely love em,,,and these rifles have been all over the U.S. hunting no problems !!
