.45-70 UPDATE (PICS)
I mentioned a while back I had ordered a Gibbs Summit Frontier and just wanted to post a follow up. I had my brother make a custom mount out of a picatinny rail and he drilled and tapped the gun and I mounted a BSA 4X32 in Millet angle locks. There is a target in the picture that was shot last Friday at a shooting range using a Uncle Buds Bulls Bag. Two were touching and one was real close to touching. The one shot low right was the first shot at 100 yds before moving scope up and left. I am impressed with this rifles excellent accuracy. I am looking forward to busting a whitetail with it this fall.[:D][:D]

The perspective of your picture makes the axis ( centerline ) of the scope look quite high. How do you get a good cheek weld with it like that? 0 -
Excellent observation Rufe. You are exactly right, that was one thing I am going to have to deal with. Instead of my cheek bone laying on the stock like I normally shoot, I have to postition my lower jaw to get a good sight picture. I like my scopes mounted as close as possible to the bore, but I also wanted clearance for the bolt. I don't think this stock was designed for optics. My brother mentioned an add on cheek piece. Ever heard of one or used one? I need to do some more shooting with this gun offhand just to see how well I can do. The Bulls bag held it tight and I could adjust my hold accordingly.

I've used them in the past. The work especially well with military rifles that have been retrofited with scopes.
Brownells www.brownells.com carries a good selection of "Cheekpieces" in various heights and methods of mounting on the rifle.0 -
There are also a fairly good number of the MRT leather Garand sniper cheekpieces out there in the Army NAvy surplus stores (and online of course). NICE GROUP by the way!!!
