Smith and wesson red boxes??
What years did the Smith and Wesson pistols come in a RED card board box ?? Any one know why Red? Was it for a memorial??? [:)][:)]

plc1...... Smith used the red cardboard boxes from before WWII on into the 50's with some models.
There was no particular reason, it was just part of the evolution of boxes Smith had over the years.
Back around 1880 Smith used about 6 different colors for their boxes.

LL is correct about the period of use of red boxes by Smith & Wesson. However, plc1, what do you mean by the qustion: "Any one know why was it for a memorial?"
I do not know that Smith & Wesson red boxes had anything do do with a memorial, and, if they did, I would not know why Smith & Wesson would have chosen the color red for a memorial, if it did. A memorial for what? Please explain the "memorial" reference.
Without knowing and having no idea about the "memorial" issue, I suspect the question may be related to the early 1950s when J-frames came in red boxes. Those boxes are plain red with only an end label identifying the gun shipped in the box.
