Gun scrubber and my new GI .45..
Hello there. I just purchased a Springfield Armory GI .45 and took it out to the range a few days ago. It shot very nice and for the price I paid I was thrilled.
Well....went to clean it yesterday and some gun scrubber ran down onto the slide where it is painted OD green. I used a dry gun patch to wipe it off and the finish came off with it!
The manual had no warnings of certain solvents etc, this is just crazy to me. Can anyone tell me why this might have happened, and any recourse I have? Thanks for any tips![V]

I had it strip the cammo finish off a Mossberg shot gun too...

Some gun cleaners and solvents have warnings on the back that they may remove finish. I'm assuming your gun has a baked on poly coat of some sort. Brownells offers spray on bake on finishes if you want to recoat it yourself.

As I recall, it's mainly acetone, just like carb cleaner. Takes paint off of everything. I'm not surprised that it would take off a parkerized-type finish. 0
