M-70 Featherweight in 7mm WSM Questions
I recently bought an excellent used M-70 Winchester Featherweight in 7mm WSM. If you own one, what has been your experience and satisfaction with either the caliber or the rifle? Is ammo hard to find or pricey? What is the best bullet weight? I was thinking 140 grain. Will it handle heavier bullets OK? Thanks for any information. I haven't decided whether to keep it or not.

Magnums in general don't work well with lighter for caliber bullets. In the case of the 7mm Mags you usually want to start with 150g and go up from there. Availability and pricing of 7mmWSM ammo won't be anywhere as good as the 7mmRemMag, which is still the all time leader, but it shouldn't be hard to get. Especially if you can mail order from places like Cheaper then Dirt, Natchez and Cabelas. 0 -

I suspect the Hornady 154 grain spirepoint would be just about right,
and a 160 grain premium would do on the heavier animals like
Elk and the such.0 -

I worked up several loads for a 7mm WSM just not in the Featherweight configuration. The shorter barrel will just be a bit less efficient than one with more length.
Excellent light bullets were:
120 Nosler Ballistic Tips
130 Speer SP
130 Sierra MK
140 Barnes TSX-BT
140 Nosler Partition
Heavier bullets:
160 Nosler Accubond
160 Nosler Partition
162 Hornady AMAX
The 120's, 130's and 140's worked best with V V N-160.
The 160's and up worked best with V V N-165.

i like my mdl70 in 7wsm. h4350 seems good for the 140's- i'll let you know as i rig up some for antelope, i'm thinking nbt..., h4831sc is the cats pajamas for the 160's. i think it is a lovely cartridge best suited for reloaders, yet federal started loading for this last year. any well stocked sporting goods store should have some factory ammo. my walmart does...
