Been looking at the leica brf 10x42, I would like to hear your pros and/or cons, thanks for your input

There are only two cons that I would apply to the Leica BRF's:
- Cost
- battery use (about 500 cycles of the rangefinder)
The cost we can't do much about, bite the bullet and spend the money. As far as the cycle life is concerned, I carry extra batteries, especially the first time I take them out to try. I can burn through a battery in no time!
I spent all of one day at SHOTShow 2004 looking at optics, when I would have much rather been looking at other things but I needed to get up-to-date so look I did. Normally, optics are optics and there just isn't much change except in maybe the outside of the package and then the oft touted coatings on the glass layers. Yes I know, coatings are a good thing and they really are but the hype gets to be a little wearing.
My biggest problem with the binoculars is of course how they work with glasses since I wear glasses when I hunt or shoot targets. Most binoculars don't work with glasses, it's that simple. When you do find a pair that accommodate glasses, inevitably they are the most expensive or nearly so or there is something else the manufacturer has left out that you need or want. This is partially the case with the Leica BRF's; they work with glasses, they are nearly the most expensive but they didn't leave out any of the other functions that I wanted. Very nearly perfect so I bought a pair and I haven't regretted spending the money ever.
One of the bigger benefits is that I don't have to carry another extra piece of gear, the rangefinder. The glass is excellent and so are the mechanics. I rate it as a buy.

thanks for your feed back. I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a pair of these but am a little concerned that the warranty is only 5 years instead of the usual lifetime like the other leica's; was that an issue for you? 0 -

I haven't checked my paperwork but I think that the 5 year warrantee is fairly common these days when you get into the lasers/electronics/optics. This is becoming the standard when companies try to control pricing without degrading quality. Cutting has to occur someplace so they just don't make the coverage forever. Leica has gone the full route including assembly in other countries to cut costs.
I've been using Leica equipment in one form or another for a bunch of years and never had a problem that they wouldn't work with me on. As a matter of fact, I've not had that many problems with their equipment in the first place. I don't see it as a drawback but you can always check around and see if there is something else that works for you but with a longer warrantee.

thanks again nononsense,living in remote Mn. it's hard for me to get out to an optics store much, so your input is quite important. Anyway I found someone who give me a decent trade in dollar for my current bino's and leica rangefinder so I pulled the trigger, they are due to arrive tomorrow, can't wait. Have a great weekend! 0
