AR15 Mag Problem 29th round

A problem arose this weekend with some Bushmaster factory 30 round mags I bought. The mags are new. Everytime they got down to the next to last round, they would miss feed, leaving a round smashed by the bolt. I tried 2 rifles, and every kind of brass cased ammo I had on hand. Same thing.

This is where it gets weird, I tried some wolf I had lying arround and it fed fine...

I switched followers and springs with some OKAY mags I had, and the OK's worked with the BM guts, and the BM's worked with the OK guts and brass cases.


Any ideas as to what is going on? All mags had green followers, although the shape of the followers are slightly different.

    I'm thinking you got some bum followers. You might check the inside of the magazine body where it is spotwelded, if there was a burr on the electrode there might be a little spatter/blister that is catching the heel of the follower. Just my .02

    Just remembered something, I've seen some mags where follower wouldn't stick out far enough to catch under the bolt-hold open lever but would jam the follower between the mag body and the front of the hold open lever. What type of AR is it?

    The guns are a newer Rock river, and a five year old nearly new Colt. One bad follower I could see, But I have 24 of them. I will see what Bushmaster has to say. If the rifle makes it to the last round by putting a round of wolf in the 29th slot, The BHO works properly.

    Are you keeping the mags loaded to the max for extended periods of time? Then it is a weak spring. I only keep 25rounds in 30 round mag for extended periods of time..
