Looking for el cheapo .22 LR rifle. suggestions?
This is for informal target shooting/recreational/plinking.
I just want a functional beater. I don't care what it looks like, where its made, what its made from, or even what action type it is, so long as:
1. Its a repeater (no patience for single shots).
2. Its reliable/durable.
3. Has adjustable sights and decent accuracy (I don't need match accuracy 1.5" at 50 yds is probably fine).
4. Its cheap.
5. Low maintenance is a plus.
Any "best buys" or suggestions out there?

I've got to go with dolfan on this one.Although not the "cheapest" out there,a new 10/22 can still be had for around $150 and there is no limit to what you can do with them to suit your fancy.They apparently hold their value very well since I haven't been able to find a "beater" to build into an Ulimate for less than new price.[:(]

Go to your local outdoor rifle range and see if the have a bulletin board to post want adds on. The type of old beater 22 semi that I think you are talking about isn't worth the cost of shipping. If your state isn't anal, like some, then you won't even have to do a transfer as it will be a private party sale. I'd hope that you could get an older tubefeed marlin or glenfield for about $50. 0 -

I suggest a used Marlin semi-auto from a pawn shop. I see these often from $49-$89. Proven, accurate, reliabile, cheap.

I've never seen a High Standard rifle, though if they are anywhere nearly as good as the pistols, maybe I'll start looking!

A buddy of mine picked up a .22 Nagant training rifle at a gun show for about $75...it's a pretty decent little shooter.
