.357 mag i should say has how many fps from a 16in rifle.

Depends on the load. What weight bullet and charge? It could be anywhere from 1000fps to 1400fps or higher.

I was loading 125 gr. that might have been 1800 fps (according to the charts),
until a forum member kindly pointed out all I was doing was putting extra wear on the rifling in the barrel.

Remington lists their 125gr .357 at 1450 fps and that is out of a 6" vented barrel.

Out of a 16" non-vented barrel you will likely get around 1600 fps or more. Magnums are always going to be a little harder on guns. If you are worried about excessive wear, then shoot .38 specials.

I have a bunch of .357 revolvers, both double and single action and a lever action .357 mag rifle. I dont worry about extra wear with magnums, the guns are made for it.

It's a trade off, if you want magnum performance, you will have to put up with slightly more wear.
