870 expert please...
I picked up an 870 rem super mag in a trade I want to buy an 18" barrel for it and folding stock ect ect. I can find a barrel in a 3" chamber but not the super. My question is, will the 3" work on a super mag frame? If not can someone point me to a barrel that will work. I've searched GB and can't find one.

No it will not work, that would be like shooting a 3" in a 2 _ inch chamber, actually worse because there will be a ? inch difference, you can however have the barrel rechambered for the 3.5 inch shell 0 -
he said he found a barrel for the 870 that is chambered for the 3"..can't put a 3 1/2" in a 3" chamber ???? 0 -
sorry i was multi tasking my mistake, yes it will match barrel to frame, but as i stated only shoot what is labeled on the barrel 0 -

Remington asserts, or used to anyways, that standard magnum barrels won't fit the super mag receiver.
I don't know the details on that, but I'd say to compare the two side by side.

2005 Remington catalog, page 59, top right:
Model 870 Extra Barrels: Model 870 extra barrels with 3" chambers used on Super Magnum and Magnum receivers will handle both 2&3/4 and 3" shells only. Use only 2&3/4 shells when the barrels are used on non-Magnum receivers.
