M1 Garand M14 conversion w/MAG Question
Question on the M1 GARAND 3006 to 308 mag (M14/M1a) fed RiFLE.
I am looking for a good conversion and a good shooter, but dont know enough to watch out for the bad stuff any advice and possible price advice? Also whats the difference for what Im looking for and the italian BM-59? Thank you for any help and advice thats sound. Shoot straight and true but honest. Phil

Due a search on our "Members" forum for a gentlemen who uses the screen name boeboe. Go through his back posts on this subject. He is very knowledgeable vis a vis the different versions of the BM-59. There are some that were assembled in the US using questionable parts and receivers that you should definitely avoid.

As I recall, a quality gunsmith did this conversion about 10-15 years ago for ~$600. I don't think anyone is still doing it, but, even after spending > $1,000 you'd end up with a gun that has little reason for existing. If you want a mag fed .308 semi-auto, any of the M14-clones would be a better choice.
On the other hand, conversion of an M1 rifle to .308 by installation of a new barrel is an economical & practical swap. And, it can done by any competent gunsmith. You still have to use the 8-round clips, but that shouldn't be so bad.

I have lots of M1 parts and M14 mags, always wanted one looked intresting, also have 12 m1s starting with serial 52xxx to 2xxxxxx win spring hr and so on, just wanted something different and fun also the Armscorp M14 I own is for compitition only and wanted one for enjoyment. thanks 0 -
