SA versus DA revolvers?
Okay, I would like to know the anwser to this question. Which are stronger, DA or SA revolvers? We have SA guns in .475 amd .500 Linebaugh, .454, .500 S&W, .45-70, and many other big bore calibers. Why don't we see any DA guns like this?

IMHO the single action is a stronger action type because the cyl. is held in by a pin that is supported in the frame at both ends the double action on most designs have either a top break action that makes the frame weak or a crane to hold the cyl which unless it is a S&W triple lock is also a weaker design I know some other people will disagree . 0 -
A lot of those calibers were also intended for hunting; and shooting in a single action mode instead of double action lends you more accuracy so a double action really isn't necessary.

Pardon my ignorance, but I thought the S&W 500 was a DA, as is the 460XVR. Am I wrong? 0 -

Well Freedom Arms makes SA revolvers in .500 S&W. Probably other revolver makers too. 0 -
I think the answer to the question is "neither one"; it depends on the exact gun. Some SAs are stronger than other DAs and vice-versa. But either action is sufficiently strong to handle these mega-cartridges, if appropriately engineered!
Rest assured, if there were a market demand for double-action .454 Casull Magnum revolvers, they'd be made.

The Ruger redhawk and super redhawk line IS definately double action in .480 Ruger and .454 Casull. So too is the Taurus raging bull line, and I think they are coming with a .500S&W. The old Dan Wesson line had a couple super mag calibers as well (.445, .414, .357 and .357 max) 0
