value of custom .243 rifle

I spotted a Belgium commercial Mauser actioned .243 with a douglas barrel. It has a very nice stock in what is obviously expensive wood and is well figured. The scope was a POS Tasco 3X9.

What is a fair price for a rifle like this?

    Look closer, a high end custom would not have a Tasco scope on it.

    It looks very nice, the bore is pristine. I have seen these actions before on custom guns but know that the value of "custom" rifles tend to be in the eyes of the beholder. I am POSITIVE the dealer just threw a scope on it because the orginal owner took the good one off. I would not put this in the high end of things, it is a well made custom rifle.

    I know douglas makes fine barrels, I am not as sure about the commercial Belgium mauser action. the wood although beautiful has no real value to me beyond its function of holding the action.

    What would a fair value be?

    "...POS Tasco 3X9..." POS isn't exactly true. High end they ain't, but they work. Scoped or not. It's somebody else's idea of a custom rifle. Who built it? Did he know what he was doing? What trigger? How well does it shoot with factory ammo? What quality of Douglas barrel?
    However, the rifle is really only worth what you'd be willing to pay for it.

    You need to find out who built the rifle, what kind of trigger is on it , has it been glass bedded , has it been piller bedded, what grade of wood is the stock , what kind of wood is the stock made of, what poundage does the trigger break at and what is the length of trigger pull. On the plus side that you know it has a Douglas barrel and Belgium commerical action. These are two very good things on the puls side. I try to use FN Belgium commercial actions on my rifles I build and I only use Douglas Premium barrels. If you do purchase this rifle put a high qualty scope on it. You will have all ready spent a lot of cash on the rifle so a high qualty scope will make it that much better.

    Somebody else put he Tasco on and sold the scope on it separately, imo,,,if has different trigger ect..500. WAG...Custom guns are fickle in my area to sell.......nambu
