Savage "22 SHOT" shotgun
I have a Savage 220 that is marked 22 SHOT on the right side of the barrel. The first 10 or 12 inches of the bbl. from the chamber are 22 caliber, as is the chamber itself. The rest of the bbl. looks like a regular .410 from the muzzle. Has anyone ever seen or had any dealings with this gun?

welcome to the forum! you have a collectible gun known as a rutledge or garden gun. most popular was the m-61 winchester but savage, mossberg, and remington made them too. good to about 15yds w/#12 shot 22 shotshells. the bore is opened up to help pattern the shot. enjoy it!

A few years ago I was rooting through a bunch of junk my elderly neighbor saved over the years. I found something similar to what you have. The one I found appears to be homemade. It is a bolt action single shot that has a 410 barrel brazed on to a .22 action about 2" in front of the chamber. Excellent workmanship. Not a single word appears on the receiver, bolt or barrel. It throws a nice pattern of .22 LR rat shot at 20 feet. Somebody, with a lot of time on his hands, must have copied a commercial production "garden gun".

While this example is a Mossberg it will give you a real good idea how and why this gun was made... I think the event was called Mo-skeet-o or something like that...
