Colt Rampant Symbol

I have just purchased a Colt Python with 4" barrel. Upon close inspection, I noticed that the Rampant Symbolwas not placed wher other similar pythons have it. Most of the symbol is hidden under the grip toward the back of the frame. I called Colt and they said that they have never heard of this before. If this is rare, does it add to the gun's value

    If the grips are original and the rollmark is in the "wrong" place, I doubt if that would increase the revolvers value. At least, not in our lifetime. If it was a hundred year old SAA....maybe. I've never seen one with the horse out of place, but I have one with a faint barrel rollmark "357".

    First of all, almost no one at Colt knows anything about Colts, at least no one who answers the phone.

    Please post the serial number, or a portion of it. There was a company that made "Pythons" out of Official Police frames by welding up the frame to match the rib on Python barrels installed as part of the process, and those have the Rampant Colt in the wrong place as described. I suspect that is what you have. If the serial number is in the Official Police range, that will be the explanation.

    CT, the original post states the Rampant Colt is placed in a different location than typically found on a Python, so the issue obviously is not the stocks. Because the Python has large stocks, the Rampant Colt is placed in a differnt spot than on the Official Police, which uses small service stocks. Therefore, if an Official Police is converted to a "Python," the Rampant Colt will be in the wrong place for use of Python stocks not to cover part of the symbol.

    These "Converted Pythons" were covered in detail here within the last couple of years. I believe Vipereater had one and eventually determined it was a "Conversion Python." It was one of the worst blue jobs I have ever seen, and yet someone bought it from Vipereater, apparently thinking it was a Python.
