hammerless S&W 38 value??

A pard has found an old hammerless S&W 38s&w under his house. from what I can tell in the books it's a 1st mosel hammerless in the 38s&w chambering. It was pretty rusted, but has cleaned up with oil and a polishing wheel so that it appears to be in good functioning order.

anyone have an approximate value for this pistol in less than perfect condition?

  My price guide doesn't offer a value for any of the S&W hammerless revolvers in poor or "relic" condition, which pretty much sounds like what your friend has. I'd venture a guess the old revolver is worth no more than $25 to $50, due primarily to collectors' interest in one of this condition being very close to zero. If it's safe to shoot (as opposed to simply functioning), you might add $10 to the price. these are not hard-and-fast values, merely an educated guess, based on a few guns I've seen in "relic" condition. Often, the only value one of these has for a collector is as a source of spare parts.
