8mm cartridge with hardened steel ball..??
Just what is a cartridge like this used for?
It measures 8mm in diameter - and approx 20mm in length.
It has a 5.6mm HARDENED Steel Ball (like from a ball bearing), but the ball is encased in a plastic cup.
Here you can see the steel ball and the crimp - and the bottom stamping is "Fiocci" (manufacturer) and " G.F.L. "
Don't do anything that I've allready done - That'd be just plain STOOOOOOPID.

I believe that is is a buckshot type projectile. I know several companies made pistol rounds that contained anywhere from 1 to 3 steel or lead balls. The idea was a hme defense round that did not run the risk of overpenetration. 0 -
Hello I hope a friend will look at your post he is an ammo expert I sent him an email to check out your question. I could very easily be wrong Buy i dont think this is a round for a firearm. # 1 the primer looks larger than normal #2 a steel ball thou hard is not the best shape for a projectile from a ballistic coefficent standpoint or from an ammor pierceing standpoint #3 I don't think the case is long enough to have 2 or three shot "buck shot" . I think this is an industrial load used in steel making to pierce a plug in a blast furnace or some other industrial use. 0 -
Yeah well, the trouble is - we don't use that kind of equipment here in Denmark.
I.e. guns to blast off dirt-buildup in boilers.
I'm leaning more towards it being ammo for killing off animals in a slaughterhouse now.
My friend has a whole pack of it - from what he can see, the ball is in a plastic cup.
The pack is a "raw" brown cardboardbox, marked with nothing else than " 8mm ".
That lead us to believe, this is part of an "industrial size pack" of some specialized ammo.

Probaably best idea is to just fire off a few rounds and see what happens[:D][:o)]

Happy, I think you are on the right track with the slaughterhouse application. Most of this type I've seen have had a 5.6 to 7mm projectile. I've not seen this particular variety before, but industrial cartridges are not heavily collected so few people bother to obtain them the way they do, say, military rounds.

My friend informed me, that the primer is a standard primer - he checked it against the ones he uses to reload his ammo with.
We'll try to get further - but thanks for the help so far. =o)
