Anyone know what year Winchester started to factory drill and tap
for 'scope mounts?

    I recently acquired this rifle chambered for 218 Bee. The receiver h is drilled for a one piece scope base. How do I go about finding such a base? The receiver has 3 holes drilled and taped. Should I take it to a gunsmith and have another hole drilled? Weaver doesn't list such an item.

    According to my sources, the mod. 43 was tapped for scope mounts after serial # 45,000, around 1955. -Asa

    I don't know but on a related subject, what caliber is your 43. I have a 25-20 and a 218 that has been reamed to Mashburn 218. I really like both and the 25-20 has reciever sights which I not crazy about. Love that little 218 though.

    ...I've got all four calibers (218B,22 Hornet,25-20, and 32-20) They were made from '49 - '57. My original Winchester model/price list for 1952 reads "drilled and tapped for scope mounting" in the Model 43 discription. I collect these "poorman's Model 70", all deluxe with the 57A peep. But two are topped with scopes; period Weaver and period Leupold. Wish there was more real info on this lil beaut...

    I don't know what year the factory started drilling and tapping for scopes. I do , however, know that my 43 will outshoot my other three .22 Hornets.[:D]

    I've got a Savage 342 that will give it a run for its' money! Beautiful little rifles though, those 43's! My '54 produced 218 Bee was D & T'ed so I know it was at least that far back.
