Could anyone give me a manufacturing date for a Smith & Wesson .22 revolver serial number 247866? Thanks.

    The box it came in said Combat Masterpiece, but the gun has no name on it. It looks like a model 17 in frame size, but doesn't have the model number in the crane area.

    Check the bottom of the butt for the serial number.You might have to remove the grips if they are the larger target grips and are covering to bottom of the butt.Make sure you give letters as well as numbers example K247866.this number would be from 1955? Serial numbers were not on the crane on the early models.You might have a Model 17 or 18? [^] [:)]

    I rechecked the serial number and there was a "K" about a half inch to the left of the numbers. It was so far to the left I took it for an inspector's stamp or something of that nature. Thanks for the help.
