Buck Mark vs. Mark III
Hello. Just wondering if you'd be willing to share your opinion of which .22 you'd recommend for casual plinking and target shooting. I've pretty much narrowed my choice down to a Buck Mark Standard or a Mark III 512 with a 5.5" bull barrel. Both seem like fine pistols. In advance, thanks for your help!

Both are. You should probably handle both a bit a get a feel for which handles best for you. There are tons of Ruger fans here who love the Mark III (and some new configurations are coming out this year). I chose the Buck Mark and own a Challenger and a Challenge. I like the feel, the ease of cleaning compared to the Mark III, and the way they shoot. I also think they are better looking. 0 -
You're trying to choose between two good pistols. Both are relatively cheap and terrific shooters. I kind of like the Ruger but it's probably because that was my first pistol when I started in bullseye and I put a lot of time into shooting it. If I look down the line at a match today, those two are the most dominant of the guns in that price range. Is one really better than the other - I doubt it. I do notice the female shooters seem to prefer the Browning while the guys have the Rugers, may just be coincidence but I do believe the Brownings are a bit lighter. The Ruger is around 40 ounces but I'd have to look up the Browning. I will say the Ruger can be tricky to disassemble for cleaning though. Either way you'll have a good gun. Ask which is better, Ford or Chevy and you'll get answers both ways. This is personal. Find out if a local club has a pistol team and stop in on practice night. I'd bet you'll find both and someone will probably let you try each.

More "stuff" out there for the Ruger, if you're thinking of modifying it (custom barrel, drop in trigger job, better grips, etc). 0 -

I have owned both.
The Ruger (puke) is a pain in the rear to take apart & clean!
Dumped the Ruger after about 3 months.
The Buckmark Camper Special with a bull barrell is my favorite, had it now for about 3 yrs, fuctions flawlessly & its not a Ruger!

I have owned and shot both as well. Both are nice pistols, but I prefer the handling qualities of the Buckmark. Just my .02. 0 -

The Buckmark is a bit smaller in the grip.
I gave my wife one for Christmas she loves it.

Thanks to everyone for your input. After much consideration, I decided on the Browning. Took delivery of a Buck Mark Standard today and am anxious to try it out. 0 -
