Going Rate? Book of Colt Firearms Deluxe 1st Ed

I'm looking at purchasing a "new" Book of Colt Firearms 1st edition in the leather deluxe version. He's asking $1350. Limited to 100 copies and serialized. What's fair value on these books? The 2nd edition deluxe version is out and selling for $500. THX Kevin

    It depends upon just how bad you want one of these books....The decission is yours....Not Mine or Anyone elses....But Yours........!

    Unless you're into collecting "RARE" books, and unless the book reads itself to you, you might consider the one on Ebarf right now. Present price is $51.....but it is a 2nd edition, (1993), and probably will sell for way UNDER $500.....!!! If I were looking this is what I'd do, but, I'm not you, so, your call!

    If you want the book for the information buy the cheapest, most recent edition you can find. If you are thinking investment, then that is not the way to go, but be aware that "Limited editions" of books in wide circulation are often only lucrative for the original seller. Old, rare books only get valuable if there is demand, high priced limited editions sometimes hold their price, and often do not. If you love limited edition leatherbound books, there are worse things to spend your money on.

    Grant, after the War between the States, started his autobiography.
    He died a week after he finished it.
    A friend who buys and sells books found it in a crate of books and just sold it for $400.
    He probably paid $5, or less.
    It's a First Edition, and looks it.

    You want to be the one selling a copy of the firearms book for $1350, not the one buying it.

    I see little reason to pay 1350 bucks for a coffee table book. buy a reprint for 50 bucks and buy you a 1849 pocket model with the left over change.

    The above replies pretty much cover it. My take is if you want it as a status item, give some thought about who else it will impress. If you want it for the info, read the above replies again.
