questions on cz 550
Looking at one of these in .270. The only one I've seen was pretty rough as far as the action is concerned. Whats been your experience? also does anyone know what degree the bolt lift is and are detachable mags an option on this caliber? any other input is appreciated, I have looked at thier web site, thanks for the help

the only CZ bigger rifles i have looked at have had trashy bolts. i looked at some at a gunshop and it was back on the rack quick. the bolts seem cheap and dont look or feel very strong. i wouldn't buy a CZ in any centerfire caliber.

CZs are great guns esp for the money. Any centerfire caliber?
That's a tad dramatic considering many 550s are chambered in african calibers. my 9.3 shoots fine0 -

Compaired to what? The Remchesters that have there bolt's held together with a spot of soft solder & superglue?
I've owned 2 in the larger calibers, and while the finish is a little rough (cosmetic thing, if it bothers you than reblue it) the internals have been excelant. For the price they are a great place to start. They also have a good reputation for accuracy across the board (most reports are that they shoot better than the there test target would indicate.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the CZ550 in any of its variations. Sure there's the possibility of some roughness in some considering where they're coming from. But overall, the consistancy is pretty good.
The detachable magazines are reserved for the smaller bore rifles.
The bolt lift is between 90 and 93 degrees as is common with the 2 lug Mauser style bolts.
You are probably already aware that many custom rifle makers use these receivers for their custom work. They are sturdy, reliable and come in a large enough size to accommodate even the largest of the traditional cartridges used for hunting in Africa. I don't hesitate to use them.

CZs are good quality rifles. My 308s shoot Remington corelokts in groups under an inch at 100 yds. The 308 FS and Varmint do have detchable mags. I do not care for them but it is no big deal. If you go to the Accuratereloading.com forum and do a search you will find much more info on CZs. Jack Belk, an Idaho gunsmith noted on Hutamerica.com that that IHO this was an outstanding rifle value. He uses the "take off" bbls for custom guns because of their accuracy. For the price, the wood is also pretty good. The bolts and raceway can be polished up and improved as some have done if it boothers you. 0 -
All CZ guns I have ever seen were really good. You obviously have not looked at some American made guns very closely. CZ gives you about the most-bang-for-a-buck than any other manufacturer around anywhere. I own two rifles.

My CZ's are glassy smooth compared to my WBY MKV, and my remingtons. The ruger isn't even in the same ball park, thus I do not have one anymore.

I own a CZ 550 in 270 a few years ago. This was the "premium" model. The only knock I had was that it was HEAVY. With scope, sling and full mag weight 10 lbs. The walnut was nicely figured a well checkered and the barrel and action were beautifully finished. I'd compare the action working to any good mauser. But too heavy for my stage of life. Traded it for a Rem Mountain Rifle in 7mm-08 and have not regretted it.
