COLT KING COBRA / PYTHON BBL

I recently acquired a stainless steel King Cobra with what appears to be a 6" Python barrel. The rib is vented, the barrel is ported and the crown extends slightly past the body of the barrel (like a Python) but it is stamped with the normal King Cobra markings. The frame is drilled & tapped for a scope mount. I'm curious about the rarity of this gun.

I read that some King Cobras were sold with the scope mount holes and a porting option was available in the late 80's or early 90's. The vented rib and Python-like crown have me scratching my head.

Any suggestions?

    Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy a letter from Colt. Then, again, maybe I'll just live with the curiosity.
