S&W 25 .45acp vs 45 long colt

Have been looking at the S&W 25 series guns that were chambered for either the 45acp or 45 long Colt cartridge. Which is the more desireable? The acp cartridge requires those half or full moon clips which seem like a pain, but I remember seeing all the big bore revolver shooters using these very effectively at the shooting range when I was young. At this time I don't have anything that uses the long Colt, but do for the acp.
Any other pros or cons between these two cartridges and this series revolver?

    Great guns. Just that the 45 acp is much easier to shoot.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    If you hand load go with the 45lc. If you do not then i would go with the 45acp. There are alot more factory loads for the 45acp than the 45lc. My 2 cents [8D]

    i want to correct you all. the model 25 wasnt chambered for the 45 acp, it was chambered for the 45 auto rim. it CAN SHOOT 45 acp with moon clips. i shot a 25 in autorim for years and it is the sweetest gun i ever used.

    Hello the model 25 with "full moon " clips work just like a speed loader you can use the same loads as your 1911 wad gun these are great guns they even made a S&W factory muzzel break .Brownell's sells a neat tool to unload the full moon clips.

    I'd say for target work get the .45ACP,for hunting the .45 Colt.[:)] [^]

    Thanks to all. Will be searching for a model 25 in 45 acp There is only one listed on GB now, it is with box and all papers. In searching sold listings have seen some cheaper without the box and papers. I'm probably the only one in the world that considers those boxes more of a liability than an asset. Most of these offered for sale appear to be in great shape and have noit been fired a lot.

    look for some 45 auto rim bullets too. you wont have to use moon clips, ever!

    I have a 625 and as Bobski said its sweet. Its my carry gun during deer season. The half moons arent to bad but the full moons I find impossible to unload unless I have something to pry the casings out. My fingers just cant get hold of them. The autorim is the way to go. I shoot lots of 45acp and found being set up to load them made the 625 an easy choice.

    Bobski, I hate to disagree with you, but I have a 125th anniversery S&W in 45 Colt and it is a model 25-3.

    Excuse me Bobski, I re-read your post and you didn't say that it was only made in 45 AR. I also have a Model 25 in 45 AR that was mis-marked from the factory as a model 1950. I don't know how many got out that were mis-marked. When I bought this gun about 30 years ago, the dealer had several of them.
