Brass cleaner/polish ?

Id like to know what is the best stuff to use in your media to get the best and brightest polish on your brass?

I was blown away when this man pulled up his vehicle at the range and set up his gear , I noticed the brightest brass i have ever seen! Better than new! Unfortunately he doesnt want to give me the secret, but he said he would bring me some to try this upcoming saturday!He also said that to never use ammonia based claners on your brass.I said why? He said it makes brass brittle and crack. Ive tried frankford arsenal,lyman,iosso polish and it nowere looks like his. Anybody have some ideas or thoughts?

    Whatever you do, don't use Brasso. There are some that will tell you they have used it for years. All it will do is clean your brass and make it brittle at the same time. You do have a tumbler don't you? I have no idea what to put in with the media, but that guy is using something. Maybe someone else can help you out.

    I use a tumbler and corn/walnut media! Im aware of the old brasso thing. Im hopeing for some new ideas or something else to try.If i can get my brass to look and feel like his,Ill be one happier man,lol! He definately is using something !!!!!!

    What are you using? Corn or walnut. corn polishes better then walnut. I use dillon polish and it works good, but not great. Please let us know when you find out what this other person is using.

    I use both, depending on how bad the brass is. My normal routine is corn for the first cleaning(2-4 hours) and then i run the cases for another 30-1 hour in the walnut media.My brass looks like everybody elses, but nowere looks like what that guy had. When and if he shows up this weeknd at the range,ill be glad to share with everybody out there what it is.

    Labor intensive...but it works. I use quick rinse in hot soap and water (rinsing with hot tap water a good deal).Using a collander, I then shake it as dry as possible, and put the brass in several delicates bags and (after the wife has gone shopping or something...VERY important!) I throw it in the dryer for about 30 minutes. I then drop it in Lyman green corn cobb media for about 2 hours. I seperate the media and brass, and then using a cotton t-shirt, clean each piece quickly by hand. Then I resize, trim and return to the Lyman media for about 3 to 4 hours. Again, I seperate the media and brass, uniform each pocket, clean well (polish) with the cotton T and use a Lee hand primer to set the primers. At this point, I either use a Silicon reel cloth if the primed brass is to be loaded later, or I load the rounds and THEN use the Silicon cloth to put a nice protective coat on the rounds. Wear your sunglasses when you pull this stuff out at the range[8D]! I guarantee you'll get those kind of results if you don't mind the extra elbow grease!! (and your wife doesn't find out you've been using the dryer as a brass dryer![B)])

    I use rice in my polisher with Midway polish. Rice both cleans and polishes and is cheap.

    Rice is something definately ive never heard before. Its cheap enough to try! Also,I was contacted by e-mail and this person said that if you want the same shiny brass that the guy at the range had, use a mixture of jewelers rouge and some paint thinner! Has anybody used this combo before?

    ALLRIGHT I GOT THE MAGIC FORMULA! So i am told.You use your regular media and you add 1 tablspoon of powdered red rouge and a few squits of paint thinner. He said its what he has been useing for years with no effect of brass britleness!

    I use ground corn cob in polisher with dillion,after they are polished i wipe them down with amsoil MP not oily and displaces moisture.tks hedge

    I don't know about the paint thinner, but the media I use (had it for years, bought a huge supply waaaaaaay back along) is very fine walnut impregnated with the rouge. Does a nice job on regular brass which is merely tarnished at the normal levels.

    I use the pet store variety corn cob with a cap full mineral spirits mixed in.

    Comes out close enough to new brass for me.

    I think cleaning brass can be over done.
    It ain't art work you just shoot it again and get it dirty again.[:D]
