    Personally, I avoid the hot stuff in my Model 36. If you feel you MUST use +P for self-defense, keep it to a minimum, shoot a cylinder-load to find out where it prints on target, then use the milder ammo to practice. That seems to be the consensus of everyone I've ever discussed the matter with.

    I do believe the S&W 36 is rated for +P loads. At least that is what I gathered from the brochure my dads came with. I would'nt use it for practice, but self defense you would have no problem.

    I'd believe a new M36 would be rated for +P's, but not an older model.

    If yours is rated for +P,try a cylinder or two to see where it prints.Then use standard loads for practice. With my Model 60-4 I usually shoot 1 or 2 cylinders of +P a month when I have it out at the range.
