I was wondering if you could get .17hmr loads with a volicity of around 3500fps??

    Happy New Year To ALL! I saw a small article on this cartridge. Was this a wildcat or new cartridge? Also it said that Ruger and Marlin will both make rifles for it,dose any one out there know when the gunshops might see them come in? Any and all help will be of great interest. Thanks.

    Maybe I'm wrong, but is'nt that a little fast for a rimfire round? What do you want them for? Shooting Times magazine has the 17 grain V-Max at around 2550 FPS.

    Perhaps you could neck down a 454 casull to 17, that ought to get yu those speeds.[:D]

    I already tried that... you wouldn't believe what a barrel moving that fast will do to a quart can and the post it is sitting on too.

    Thats what i thought too, but i heard you get get them with a volicity of 3500. I just thought id ask some who knows a little more than i do.[:D]

    I only have a little bit of experiance with the HMR round, but I knwo of no one who loads their HMR rounds to 3500FPS. I don't even think its possible. Try the relaoding forum maybe?

    No you can't. It's a rimfire round that you can't change and can only buy from the companies that make it. It's all loaded to around 2550FPS from the factories. -- Only thing(other than wildcat rounds) that is 17 caliber that is that fast is the 17 Remington centerfire(not rimfire)..........[|)]

    17 remington will do over 4000 fps, you might be getting the two confused. i dont think there is any way for the 17hmr to get to those speeds.
