Redfield Olympic Sight Inserts
Last Dec. I purchased a Winchester 52B equipped with Redfield Olympic front sight. Only one sight insert came with the gun. I knew a variety of apperature sizes were available, one of almost anything is not enough, so my collector instincts kicked in. I bought several "sets" on an internet auction site, but out of maybe 8 or 10 pieces it seemed that there were only about 4 different sizes. Shortly after these purchases a set was offered that indicated apperature sizes; .090, .100, .115, .135, .155, and purchased that set. I thought the inserts must be marked as to size, they are not.
How does one determine the apperature size on these things? I doubt that an inside micrometer is used or that there is a "go-no go" gauge. I don't believe these old eyes can determine size to 5 thous. of an inch.
How many sizes did Redfield make or what sizes would make a nice set?
Yes, I'm a newby to this sight apperature thing.

Hello my suggestion is to buy a set of wire size drills These drills come in many small sizes and you can see what size will just fit the hole and then use a Mic. or dial caliper to see what size you have.The size is only for referance the reason for so many is to give you the shooter a chance to pick the size you want for the light conditions and the target size and distance.It may change of what you want from day to day. 0
