how to make blue shiny
have a 35 year old smith revolver blue is fading how could i get back some of the shine?

Darned hard to replicate that older Smith and Colt blue. The blueing is pretty much so a memory at this point, but you coould have 260 reblue it if you just want it to be pretty and handleable; blueing is a protective finish after all. You could use light oil and 4 O steel wool, but that will polish the surface at thee sacrifice of whatever blue is left...kind of a catch 22. Just try not to use the cold blue stuff; it smells really bad and most of them just don't look right in my opinion. Some are doubtless better than others, but nothing beats rust or hot salt blue in my book.

If all you want to do is get back the shine without getting it darker, and to restore it some, then try treating your gun with a good quality "gun wax" like Flitz or use some "Poly-Pro Tec Gun-Guard". This stuff really works. You can use it on blued or stainless guns. It also protects the guns from fingerprints and it's dry, not oily. [:D][:D][:D][8D][8D]
