Old Tasco Scope ?

I just got a Tasco 16X40 target scope. This is the old style that looks like the Lyman and Unertl. Anyway the front lens has a rainbow look to it around the outside edge. Anybody know what might have caused this or will it effect the scope. Looks nice and clear when you look through it.

    just a guess , but possibly , the lens being cleaned with a cloth contaminated with some solvents

    See if the very edge of the lens has a small chip in it.I once slipped and fell on a snow covered road.The only damage done was a small chip to the lens,it then had the rainbow that you speak of.The scope was still usable. [:)]

    It could well be a chip, even and invisible chip on the very edge of the lens hidden by the retaining ring. It may also be discoloration in the coatings. If it works well and looks clear from the ocular, don't worry about it, go do some shooting.
