give away old firearms
A problem that I need advice on. I have more guns than my safe will store so I wanted to unload several. A life long friend who shoots with me sometimes but does not own a gun would like to have one.How do I go about this? I told him he could have it for free, it's an older Remington 12 ga. semi auto. I live in PA but he is across the river in NJ It is registered to me. Can I just hand it to him ? or is there paperwork that must be done?

If you want to do it legally, it must go through a NJ FFL holder, who must comply with state law on the transfer. Likely there would be a transfer fee of around $25. If it must be registered in NJ it is probably better not to simply hand it to your friend. 0 -
Just be certain that your NJ friend has a valid Firearms Indentification Card and do the transfer thru a NJ FFL.
There is NO gun registration in NJ!

well, thanks for all the help fella's. My friend does not have a NJ firearms ID card.After reading the replys I am at a loss for a way to help him.One more question, in PA how do you get rid of guns you no longer want or have any room for? 0 -

You could drop them off at my brothers house. Then I could pick them up on my next trip back there[:D]

Sell them to a dealer outright, have him sell them on consignment for you, sell them here or run an ad in your local pennysaver . 0 -

Believe it or not, it is legal for a NJ resident to purchase a long arm out of state by showing his FID and filling out the standard ATF form........
