Caviar Taste
I have been collecting guns since I was in my mid 20's I am now in my mid 40's. I have always had a Caviar taste for guns, But unfortunatley a peanut butter pocket. I have bolstered my collection by buying and selling guns in my free time ( gun shows, classified ads). I have always been partial to older winchesters, maybe because they always kept their resale value. Or maybe because they represent the best of America. But I am considering the purchase of what I consider to be the best of the best. The Model 21 winchester in a small bore. should I trade in about 5 nice old winchesters for 1 gun (plus boot)? Only you can answer that question. Do you want that one gun more that 5 you have? If the answer is yes, do it. 0 -
if you want that gun more than the 5 you have, sell the 5 you want to trade and you may have more money than needed without getting rid of as many guns. if the seller is any count, he will hold the gun for you if you are truly interested.

If the five you want to trade can be replaced easier than finding another 21 like you want then the answer is yes. It has always been my experience that selling five moderate priced items is much easier than liquidation of one holy grail.
Personally, it would be a tossup for me. Winchesters are all over Gunlist and Gunbroker.

IMO, one gun you enjoy shooting (or owning) is better than five that sit in a vault pointlessly gathering dust.

Gotta go with Beantown, being neighbors and all. This is why I don't buy guns that I haven't always wanted. I suppose one day I'll have to list them here.

It depends on which five you are talking about. Well used Model 21s with only one barrel set will generally fetch at least $5K; a well taken care of Model 21 with 2 barrel sets and level 5 engraving will go from $10K-$15K. Most Pre-64 Model 70s can be obtained for well less than $1K; so if thats the selection, then 5 for 1 may even be short. However if you're talking Medel 1885s, 1886s etc, then you need to recalculate. 0 -
I can identify with this. I just traded 3 High Grade Brownings + boot for a BSS sidelock. I think it is better to have something you want and will use than a bunch of "safe queens". Am trying to decide if I want to trade some OM Rugers for a custom Winchester 20/28 Ga. Decisions,decisions. Do what lets you sleep at night. 0 -
I just sold a number of guns to pay for a Webley Fosbery. After shooting it, I have no regrets at all. 0 -
