Marlin 336, 35 Rem ?'s

Hi everyone, i just bought a Marlin 336 in .35 remington, i shot winchester 200 grain powerpoints in it, they didn't group real well at 50 yards maybe 2-3 inches and they were inconsistant, it is a used gun but very nice and the bore looked good, it has low see thrus with a fixed swift 4x-40mm lens and the lens just barely clears the barrel...what accuracy should i expect from this gun? what loads should i try? 150 grains or 200? And does anyone know the twist rate for this gun? Thank you!

    I have a Marlin 336 .35Rem and I shoot 200 grain sierra handloads and enjoy great accuracy at 100 yds. I have a lyman receiver sight on mine and can expect a 2" group every time. I would make sure that everything is tight and try again. The twist rate is 1 in 16 I think. My 336 was manufactured in 1959 with a micro groove barrel. Great rifle and is the one of my choice when walking in heavy cover. I've had several 336's and they all were great shooters.

    In a .35 Marlin lever action, stay with the 200 grain bullets. Heavy bullets are what makes a .35 caliber perform. You should get 2" or better three-shot groups at 100 yards with a good scope and ammo if everything is tight and you have a good sandbagged rest. At least that's been my experience. Congratulations on your rifle. It's a great choice for deer, bear, and elk at reasonable ranges (under 150 yards). I hope it works out for you.

    My 336 is awesome with winchester power points. I use the open sights and easily keep them in a 2-3in circle at 100. I consider that very good with the standard sights. Looking to get a williams peep for it. It is an superb deer round. Have shot a handful with it and none went out of sight! Good Luck.

    The 200 grain (I use Rem. core-lokt) are best. They work very well in an older 336 with cut rifling and a newer one with micro-groove. My best accuracy is with top loads...yes work up carefully. Phil

    My 336 with MicroGroove keyholes all brands and handloads of 200 gr bullets. It shoots great with Speer 180 gr bullets. My neighbor has an identical 336 that shoots anything. MicroGroove barrels are super finicky.
