How can white epoxy be disolved
Will someone please advise how white epoxy can be disolved from the toe of a Walnut buttstock to enable better repair to be made. Thanks for your help. Please reply at - jclane40@yahoo.com

Acetone, but be careful that it does not dis-color the varnish or wood. But if it can not be seen go for it. 0 -
Epoxy cannot be dissolved. The best that you can do is soften it with dimethyl bromamide or sulfuric acid, both of which are difficult to work with & probably unsuitable for wood.
Depending upon the value of the stock, you may want to consider paying a restoration expert, who will cut out the bad area & make a nearly invisible repair with a wood patch.

My Having a Daughter and Three Sisters....all Dentists...and Shooters,I've watched how they have overcome problems such as Yours.... it seems to me that You have the Solution in Hand....Epoxy is what the name implies...Durable and long Lived.....Use a Dental Drill and pretend that its a Tooth being preped for a Filling!...That should take care of the problem of getting rid of the Epoxy and give you a base to facilitate Repair........

I don't know if it will work or not, but if you want to try it, a paint remover paste containing methylene chloride might work. It WILL get polyurethane if you are patient.
What Capt. Kirk said will also work.

If you don't have access to three dental offices for your firearm repairs, a rotary tool(Dremel is a brand name) will do. The only way to get epoxy off is to cut/file/scrape it off.

Try a heat gun, carefully. Some epoxies soften up when heated. You're still going to have to physically scrape or wire brush the softened epoxy. 0 -
Dang, sunray, that sounds too simple!!! I'm gonna try it. Sounds too simple to me, don't people use polyurethane on bar tops? What kind of alcohol?

Thanks to Capt. Kirk and all others - being a dentist for 61 years I made a very small but very sharp instrument and carefully cut out the margin of the white epoxy to a depth about 1 m.m.. Now all I have to do is mix walnut sawdust with epoxy, place and refinish the toe of the stock. Again thanks to all you nice people for your help.
