Winchester 94??

Well, i've been looking for a good used lever action 30-30 and had my heart set on the Marlin 336. Today, a co-worker said he has a like new Winchester 94 for $100 he has put about 10 rounds through. Should I forget about the Marlin and buy the Winchester. Thanks for the advice.

    I understand your point but frankly i would buy any good condition 94 for $100. granted the older version is a better gun.

    Yeah, you do have a valid point, but I personally would not squander one of my hard earned Ben Franklins on any Model 94 manufactured between 1964 - 1980. I guess that makes me a stuck-up elitist[;)][:D]

    I wouldn't say that Bert and i meant no offense in any way. I just don't think this guy could loose for $100

    drockcbr... Nearly everything that Winchester manufactured after 1963 and up to the point they sold out to U.S.R.A.Co in 1981 was junk[xx(]. They used inferior materials on everything except their barrels, and they stamped out parts instead of milling them. All of the hand-fitting that was normal on the pre-64 firearms stopped when they started stamping parts, and as a result, the fit tolerances were opened up (making the guns sticky, loose, and just plain sloppy[V]). I could go on for quite sometime detailing all of the problems Winchester experienced in the mid 60s - mid 70s, but I just don't feel like writing a mini-novel at the moment.

    calamity... I did not think for even a nano-second that you meant any offense by your post. That is why I put the [;)][:D] at the end of my own sentence where I was poking fun at myself[:o)].

    For those of you who have not had the fortune or misfortune (depending upon your personal outlook) of either meeting me in person, or talking with me on the phone, I have a very warped sense of humor, and I sometimes display it in odd ways[:D]... it probably has a lot to do with the 20+ years I spent riding around on U.S. Navy nuclear powered submarines[:0].

    IF IT IS IN GOOD SHAPE, AND YOU WANT IT ... BUY IT !

    You can always get your money back at that price.
    (If you see a 336, that I am partial too also)

    At least you know ONE person who would buy it and ONE who wouldn't.
