Gun selling on the Internet: Good Market?

Howdy all,

New to this forum and I would appreciate feedback from some of you experienced sellers as to the whether selling guns on the Internet is still a viable option.

I've sold on this site in the past, back in 03, right about the time PayPal quit accepting firearm transactions. I was quite happy with the deals I made back then and have been looking to start trading/selling again, but my thumb-in-the-wind take on GunBroker and other gun-selling sites is that it looks as though the action has dried up.

I'm a former FFL-dealer and competitive shoother, did the gunshows and pretty well had my finger on the pulse of the gun biz. I had to take a hiatus for several years to raise my daughter, but she's grown & gone, and I'm sort of slowly getting back into the gun-trading game.

    Great place to sell guns. Much better than the shows.

    I love it here. Personally I think there is plenty of action on this site. I am not however, a large volume trader, just a simple collector.

    It depends.

    There are a lot of folks who list guns on the auctions who are "playing games". They list their guns at ridiculous prices, & because they don't have to pay a listing fee, keep them out there for YEARS, hoping to catch a sucker.

    But, that happens everywhere. I used to list guns in newspapers like Shotgun News & Gun List, but ads are way too expensive, & I rarely got good results.

    If someone lists an item at a fair price, it will most likely sell. They are out there, but a lot of folks just don't want to spend so much time wading through the listings of those playing games.

    I think it is all about getting out what you put in. With a little marketing effort, I've seen some commercial guys do really well here. There surely are a bunch of people (as mentioned by previous poster) that seem to be sucker fishing with their reserves, but as always, caveat emptor at all times. I think it would be more of a concern for a buyer than as a seller. I too am a simple collector. Without doubt the estranged estate sale (sales where the kids and parents had little to do with one another and the kids hate guns!)is the best bet for building a collection or turning some serious bucks, but GB is a much easier venue to haunt than those estates where you never really know what your going to see, or NOT see as the real dealers have picked the estate clean long before the sale was announced. This site, in my opinion, is better than gun shop purchases and at least marginally better than frequenting the local gunshows (although I still do both...you never know!). Shops and travelling dealers have alot of overhead and they are IN IT TO MAKE A LIVING! They desrve to make the profits they try for in my view, it's just better for me, the lowly collector, to have the great, varied selection I get here. Like any other bid site, you just have to watch what you are doing as a buyer OR seller and you can make it work.

    So far I have only bought one thing off of gun broker. But I am seeing items here that i just can't find any where else. After 30 + years of shooting and collecting my interest is starting to channel down to the older single shot rifles. It seems that all the really nice available ones are here. With Concealed Carry being the hot ticket right now there just ain't many quality older pieces at the shows. P.R.O. gun show being the exception. Those shows are rare a nd usually a long way off for me. I know I will buy guns off of this site this year and in the future. I am planning to get my C&R asap to buffer the cost a bit though. More than half of my guns of interest fall in C&R class firearms (thank God). I see firearms that make me slober like an old redbone at suppertime. Yea this is a great site. And this forum is the cats a**. The best people on the net are right here.
