Shooting high

I have a ruger bisley in 44mag with the 7.5 inch barrel. The sights are completly bottomed out and I cannot get it to shoot less than four inches high at 50 ft. I have used both full power and cowboy loads and used several different weight bullets. Any thoughs or suggestions that I can do or if that does not work what will a gun smith do.

    Hello if you have the rear sight as low as it will go and tried different loads the only thing left for you or a gunsmith to do is buold up the front sight . But before you do that you might want to send it back to ruger maybe they install the wrong sight .

    what type of sight picture are you using ? is the top of the front blade even with the top of the rear sight ? what weight of bullets are you using ?

    I am using 200 to 240 grain cast bullets and the front sight and rear sight are even.

    thats weird , sounds like you need to take a fine sight (lower the front sight into the rear sight notch ) or get a taller front sight blade

    I had a pre-owned Blackhawk that shot a foot high at 100 yards with the rear sight bottomed-out. Turned out some dim-bulb had filed the front sight. I sent it to Ruger and they replaced that front sight - no charge.
    If your .44's front sight hasn't been altered, you could build it up a bit higher. You might also find that switching to lighter-bulleted loads, such as 180 grainers, will bring down the POI in relation to the point of aim.
    Another possibility would be to resist the recoil impulse with a firmer grip or try different stocks that don't allow the revolver to rotate in recoil.
    All the above factors will affect the bullet's point of impact on target.

    Sand bag it and if you are still shooting high, send it back to Ruger. They'll take care of it.

    All of these are right on, I am sure Ruger will fix the problem at no cost, I had a springfield 1911 that was the same way and they even paid the shipping cost.
