.260 Recoil?

I have never shot a .260 but I have shot a 25-06. How does the 260 recoil compare to the 26-06?

    The .260 is much more pleasant to shoot. Additionally, it is much quieter than the .25-06. The .25-06 is known for being excessively loud. Loudness exascerbates flinching.

    ever fired a 243? they are about the same.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    Fairly close ballisticlly(sp?),with the 260 having the edge.All else being equal(shooter,rifle,etc.) the 260 is a more accurate cartridge. That being said,I'll have to admit I've never really cared for the 243.

    To some degree the felt recoil will depend upon the stock construction and weight. The recoil in my .260 is noticably greater than my .243. The .243 is built on a Fajen laminate stock, while the .260 is on a H&R California rollover Monte Carlo. Classic stocks impart less felt recoil, all things being equal. None the less, the .260 is by no means a punishing round. Less recoil than a .270.

    I have a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in .25-06 and a Browning Stainless Stalker in .260. I shoot max. handloads out of each, 115Gr bullets at 3150fps from the .25-06 and 120gr bullets at 2960fps from the .260......I don't notice much difference, the Tikka is lighter though.

    Either one is what I would consider "manageable recoil". Which, in my(not so) humble opinion is critical to excellent shot placement. Which is critical to good hunting. Recoil-wise I wouldn't necessarily give an edge to either only both are good. For reloading you will find the 260 as more efficient. Ballistics in similar weights are close with the edge going to the 25-06 up to 120 grs. -hope that helps

    After doing a little more research and using the recoil calculator on http://sst.benchrest.com and my Nosler reload book, it comes out using a 120 gr. in 25-06 and the 120 gr. in the 260. The 25-06 came out 15 lbs @11 fps recoil and the 260 came out 13 lbs. @10 fps. The velocity edge went to the 25-06. But because Nosler only makes a partition in 120 the ballistic edge went to the 260. Due also in part to it's larger diameter the 260 will transfer more energy to the target if velocities are the same. In fairness though the 25-06 shines with 85-100 gr. bullets pushed much faster. -hope that helps more.
