Ruger p89
I bought a couple hand guns last fall. I have a Kimber 45acp high cap. Nice gun and accurate to. I like the trigger because it dont have a lot of free travel befor it fires. Its right there. It has a solid feel to it but not a lot of travel. I like the way it fires. The Ruger 9mm on the other hand seems like you pull back the trigger forever before it fires. My question is CAN this be changed. I like the feel of the gun in my hand but not the free travel the trigger has. If I could get it to feel like my Kimber I think I would like the 9mm just as much. Any body with advice ?

I bought a used Ruger p89 not long ago with VERY, VERY few rounds through it. It is stainless with a manual safety. The serial # is 312-68063. Could someone tell me when it was manufactured and an approximate value so I can know if I paid too much. 0 -
Love mine. Had it for about 6 years, and can't remember any problems at all.

They have one of the worst triggers out there. That being said, they are reliable, a great value, and some people actually find them accurate.

I've had mine for over 10 years. Solid. Dependable. I don't find the trigger objectionable. Excellent for home-defense or plinking. Lots of high-capacity magazines out there, too. Go for it.[8D] 0 -
I liked mine very much. Had a p90 as well. Never had a problem with either. However, I'm a 1911 guy now... more parts, more options, and it just fits my hand better. Personally I would always recommend that a person buy a 1911 and build the gun to suit his needs. 0 -
The Ruger P89 was my first handgun. I now have 8 handguns and still have the P89 (just can't sell my first gun). In my option it's great for the money, the fit and feel is not my favorite, but it's build well. 0 -
I've had mine a long time. It is somewhat of a brick, but as others have said, very accurate, don't remember a jamb, digests every thing
I've fed it and accurately. I don't know if you could wear one out. Way better than the than the $200 el junko specials, even if used a lot. Just a fine auto.(period)0 -
I currently have a P90 which is basically the same gun. i bought it new about 8 years ago for $299 and have put thousands of rounds through it. At first it would jam on semi wadcutters, but after about 500 rounds it started cycling everything I put in it. I originally had a ruger P-85 which was the first of the P series pistols from Ruger. It was a nice piece as well, i just did not care for the 9mm. I think you will be pleased with the P-89. IMO [:D]

I have had my P-89 DC since 1993. Love it. Ran all kinds of ammo through it (except Wolf)--Never had a jam. Just bought some new 17 round clips for it around the first of the year. The new clips work fine, too. It takes a little while to get used to the long trigger pull. 0 -

If you are looking at Rugers, also check out the P93, P94 and P95. These are all 9mm and share the same magazine as the P89.
The P93 is my favorite but has been discontinued. The P94 is a slight bit smaller than the P89 and more streamlined. If you get a newer one, the barrel linkage has been changed and the trigger is supposed to be better. The P95 is a polymer frame pistol the same size as the P93.
Can never have too many Rugers.

I can't remember holding one since my p85. Do they still require big hands to shoot? 0
