rifled barrel...slugs??
i recently purchased a "slug gun" (a nova with a rifled barrel). my question is what slugs work best. i realize that sabot's are meant for rifled barrel's, however, i have a hard time spending $8-10 on a box of 5 to sight in my shotgun. will regular ole rifled slugs be just as good? ($2/box is much more reasonable when sighting in). any input or comments will be appreciated. thanks

I had a rifled slug barrel for a while and had the same problem as you. I used rifled slugs to sight it in - I observed no difference in accuracy when compared to sabots, nor did it appear that the barrel was any more fouled than with sabots. It was a Hastings barrel on a 870 Express. Just my .02 0 -

Im just starting to shoot slugs i have aquired molds for 12 ga and 20 ga slugs and will hand load i have both rifled slug barrel on win 1300 and mossberg bolt 395KB with pollychoke i will know in a few weeks.tks hedge0 -
MN, I have a Mossberg model 695 bolt slug gun with a 22" rifled barrel and I shoot the Winchester sabots in it. They run around $5 or 6 for a box of 5 and are very accurate and effective. I shot a spike with it a couple years ago and it shot all the way through the deer longways. The deer was facing me and I shot him low in the neck and when I skinned it, the bullet had cut a wound channel about an inch wide all the way to the hind quarter. I recently bought some Brenneke K.O.(knockout) slugs at Dicks for $1.79 per box of 5. I have not tried them yet, but if they group well, I will probably start using them. It is a unique design because the slug actually has a plastic plug attached to it that contacts the bore instead of the lead slug. I'll let you know how they turn out.
