Orlite Mags in a Bushmaster

Seems like my "new" (actually used) Post Ban Bushmaster will not lock Orlite mags in place. Is this normal? I have ar15 metal mags and Thermold mags and they all lock in ok. If this problem is specific to Orlites, can I modify the mag catch?

    I have had the same problem with some Thermolds in some of my Ar's.

    It only occurs with "some" mags in "some" guns. I would not mess with the mag catch as this may cause the correct fitting mags to fit loose after you do the work.

    I have found that it is usually a too tight fit with the feed lips of the mag pressing against the bottom of the bolt carrier. If you shave a little at a time off the top edge of the magazines feed lips it should eventually lock in place.

    Was going to order some Orlite for my Prof. Ordnance from Cheaper Than Dirt but states in fine print, WILL NOT FIT BUSHMASTER. So there must be a reason,,,like yours.. di not order..nambu

    My Bushmaster lower also had issues with the Isralie Orlite mags. The problem was that the two ribs on the flat of the mag, about 2" down the side, that are intended to keep crud from fouling the mag well are also keeping the mag from seating. The answer was to get a sanding block with some 100grit paper on it and reduce the interfering height of the rib. Once done and oiled my Orlites became excellent drop free mags. It took maybe 2 minutes per mag to fit.

    I have 2 orlite mags for my Post-ban Bushmaster. Both fit, one works, the other has feeding problems.

    You should number all of your mags. This way you can keep track of any problems you have with them. This will help you if you have some that are picky in one gun or another. ERN has good info aobut the rib on the mag. I have lots of the Orlite mags for spares and have not had any problem with them yet. I have not used them in my bushmaster as it is my target gun and I use colt 20rd mags.

    Apparently Orlite had some that did fit Bushmaster. I ordered them some time ago from Cheaperthandirt and did spec. the bushmaster when there was a choice. They seem to function fine.
