Compare .40 S/W to .45 GAP?

I have a Glock 22&23 .40S/W, just wondering how the .45 GAP would be better?. I have been told by the 1911 croud how much better the .45ACP is to all else. Now the .45 GAP offers a smaller/comfortable frame with .45 balistics, What are .45's advantages to the .40S/W glocks? They now also have the G-38 (same as 19&23). Best, Robert[;)]

On another forum there's a signature line that reads "Your 9mm may expand, but my 45 will never shrink" The same is true of the 40 (10mm) vs 45.
In all cases, it's where you hit-em, not what you hit-em with.
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -
If I remember right this topic went around just a couple of weeks ago. You might do a search for it. As it boiled down the result, if I remember right, was that the 45 crowd was as devoted to their 45s and the 40S&W folks to theirs. Ammo selection will be the big factor in the GAPs future. The 45ACP is for the ages, the 40S&W has found wide use as a police cartridge. Unless the GAP finds a real nitche it is likely to join the ranks of wantabes n alsorans. 0 -
Here are some ballistics. Generally, keep in mind that the 45 GAP will throw a heavier slug (185 to 200 grains)compared to the 40 S&W (165 to about 180 grains).
The 40 S&W is listed by the Marshall and Sanow database "Stopping Power" as resulting in 94% of "one shot" stops of the perps. This was for a Remington bullet of 165 grains. The 45 GAP is not listed because there are not sufficient statistics for shootings developed as of yet.

The previous comparison was for bullets of equal weight.
Here is what happens when bullets of unequal weight are ballistically compared. This case uses the Speer Gold Dot 165 grain 40 S&W and compares velocity and energy to the Speer Gold Dot 185 grain 45 GAP.
This ballistic comparison further complicates the picture but illustrates the differences of design and purpose of these two rounds.
However, if we base our conclusions on one-shot stops (the one shot stop rating is based upon actual shooting incidents) the top two most effective calibers and bullet combinations are the 357 Magnum with Remington 125 grain JHP bullet being the most effective with one shot stops 96% of the time, followed by the 45 ACP with Remington 185 grain Golden Sabre bullet which is also 96% effective. Surprisingly to some, the 44 Magnum, with energy far in excess of both of the above calibers, does not exceed either of the above calibers as a manstopper because it maybe too overpowered.
The point here is that we can look at velocities and energies and ballistics but most of the time the real evidence is actual performance under real conditions.

one good thing about the 45gap is it gives you a 45cal gun in a smaller package , i guess the grip area can be about a 1/4' smaller front to back 0 -
Personally, I like the .40 sw better IF ONLY because you can stuff more of them into the same size magazine. 0
