anschutz 1730d 22 hornet

I'm thinking of purchasing one of these and would like some imput from anyone thats handled one.Thanks

    If you can get a hold of Happy Nanoq - Im pretty sure he's a Anschutz owner, other than that sorry!!

    heres my 2 cents. I used to have one. Since that time I have owned many bolt action 22 hornets. the anschutz is a center fire rifle with a rim fire action. I dont think top accuracy can be gotten with this combination. get a rifle with front locking lugs. you pay more but its worth it. try to find an old sako L46, or a BSA, or a Brno, or a cooper model 38.

    In addition to the lack of front locking lugs, the barrel is press fit and pinned like a rimfire.

    Anschutz even press fits and pins their .222 centerfire rifles- the only current firearms manufacturer to my knowledge that press fits and pins a .222 centerfire.

    They do make truly outstanding rimfires with world class barrels. They are the leader here. Why they can't apply the same level of engineering to their centerfires is likely due to the savings gleamed from cost efficiencies in the manufacturing process since their machining is set up for .22 rimfires.

    Imagine if Anschutz put their mind to a .222 or .223 small action varmint rifle built thr right way? Chucks beware!

    I own or have all of the above other than a Cooper plus a Mod 70 hornet, a ZIDI, a Greifelt, a G&H M22 Springfield, a Win hi wall and an Anschutz Hornet. Of all of those sporters, the Anschutz followed by the Greifelt, the Sako, and the Brno were the most accurate. Please note that the first 2 were what you would call rimfire actions. My only objection to the hornet was that to my classic loving eyes it was ugly.

    I meant to say I objected to the modern looking stock of the Anschutz hornet, but it sure was a tack driver!
