Smith & Wesson Model 15-3
I have a chance to buy a Smith & Wesson Model 15-3 revolver, blue steel, 4" in like new condition. I have been looking for a Smith revolver in .38 for some time (I have 4 .357s) for plinking a fun shooting (.357 loads in a Ruger SP101 is a handful). Any comments or opinions on this revolver? How much does it differ from the Model 14?

I have one of these and they are nice pistols. They usually don't bring high prices. I guess because most people prefer the model 19 357 magnum. I bought mine last year for $175. 0 -
The one your inquiring about ( 15 ) was the Combat Masterpiece. Generally you find them with 4" Barrel and ramp front sight. Although as with all things S & W, THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS.
The ( 14 ) was the K-38 Target Revolver, usually found with 6" Barrel and Patridge front sight. THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS.
14 & 15 were both chambered for the 38 Special Cartridge and are mechanically similar.

rufe-snow's post is dead on when comparing the two. 15's tend to be very accurate, easy to shoot revolvers. Great double action triggers. We carried them as cops in the Air Force, and were extensively trained on them in the police academy in the mid-80's. LAPD issued them for years. If the price is right, go for it.
