30-06 springfield accelerator question
I am looking at using my 30-06 for doing some coyote hunting with the 30-06 springfield accelerator and am wondering if any of you have used them and how well they shoot. I don't do much hunting for coyotes so I don't want to look for another gun, I will be shooting out there 200-300 yrds and they say there is very little drop only 6.2 inch at 300. Any info would be appreciated.

I would recommend you load some 125gr NBT's instead, the accelerators are not known for accuracy (which will no doubt be much worse at 300yds)
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

It is something you'll have to try yourself.....some have very good accuracy...some can hit a bull in the A$$ 0 -
you know they quit making accellorators because they were inferior/obsolete sure the original idea was great shoot a smaller bullet out of a larger cartridge using a sabot but how many saboted bullets actually are accurate. I can only think of one the locknload/speed sabots by hornady for muzzleloading which are fantastic in my opinion bought one package shot 3 and had 3 dead deer knocks the hell out of them and is very accurate almost like a cartridge for an inline.

FYI The Accelerator in 30-06 is still produced and has been for a few years now.(See pg. 80 2005 Remington catalog) product number R30069. They also make the 30-30 accl. We have several customers that have had wonderful results.....every gun is different though. 0 -
This is off the subject but a someone once told me they were taken off the market because the only rifle marking were on the plastic around the bullet. unless recovered and sometimes when recovered the groves were not traceable to the fierarm it was fired from. I do not know to be fact and I can shoot serveral holes in this rumor but I wanted to see if anyone had heard it. 0 -
Thanks Justc I went with the 125 and as I was looking only dropped 10 inches at 300 yards. This will be perfect.

Back in the late '70's tried some in a Winchester 94, was disappointed in the accuracy, gave them up and got a .220 Swift for light bullets that go fast. A whole lot more accurate. 0 -
Ditto what JustC said. I sometimes load the 125 gr Nos.B.Tip in a 3006 for Coyotes and use H.Varget powder with excellent accuracy. Look in the newest Nosler Manual for Data. They list the Maximum load with a 24" test bbl at over 3400 FPS. -- But for the record, if you are shooting much farther than around 300yds my experience is a heavier bullet is more accurate. I never had any luck with the accelerators giving good accuracy.............good luck...... 0 -

I will say that acclerator rounds are very capeable, but no further than 200 yards - 300yards. Which If you hunt within that range anyways you should have no problems. The reason for this is not because the round is defective, it is most likely that most guns are chambered for much heavier rounds like the 160gr and 200gr. Like if you want to shoot a much heavier bullet (77gr) through your ar15 you would need a barrel with a 1 in 8 or 1 in 7 twist; and not the standard 1 in 9 twist.
Another likely possibilty is that even though the barrel twist might suited for the bullet; is that your sights might be rated for a much heavier round and you will notice the round not hitting where you like it. Such was the case with my mosin nagant. I was using very light bullet weights for the rifle and noticed the rounds would not print where I aimed them. The problem was quickly solved by using a much heavier grain slug.
I do not think the acclerator round is a bad cartridge; It just is best suited to ranges under 300yds.0
