Webley proof marks
I have a Webley revolver with a mark I cannot identify. It is an elongated tear drop with a dragonfly or helicopter shape at the bulb end. Does anyone know what the proof means?

There are two marks in this picture. One to the upper right of the trigger. The other is in front of the cylinder on the frame.

Although it's very difficult to visualize the markings you describe with out photos or a sketch, I'll give it a try.
1), "dragonfly or helicopter shape" is one form of the "Broad Arrow" which is the marking used to identify British Military Property.
2), "elongated tear drop" is the "Cancellation Mark" denoting, (I BELIEVE) that the revolver is no longer British Military Property, i.e. it has been withdrawn from service and sold,

Rufe-Snow is probably correct with His Reply.....But just to be sure, how about Posting a Photo of this Mark...This is like the 7 Blind Men trying to discribe an Elephant....difficult at the very least.....I would like to see this Mark....
